WNY LGBT & Allies

Some scholarships require a letter substantiating your participation at GLYS, with your GSA or in the GLBT community.

The Tom Hammond Memorial Scholarship
Started in 2005, this $500 scholarship has been available to a GLYS member/alumnus (GLBT or ally) or student (GLBT or ally) actively involved in his/her school’s GSA.  The scholarship is named for GLYS Founder, Tom Hammond, and has been made possible through the generosity of his sister, Sue Hammond.

The Mann Scholarship
This scholarship was started in 2011.  The hope of the late Dr. Horace Mann was that each year a GLBT GLYS member/GSA member of color entering the first semester of college or other post-secondary education would receive this award.  Dr. Mann was a long time faculty member of Buffalo State College.

EmbraceWNY
EmbraceWNY is a group that sponsors a “Brunch” each year in April.  Some of the funds raised through the event are used to support scholarships for young people who live in WNY and will attend college in WNY.  These are available to both high school and college students who participate in a Gay Straight Alliance or diversity club at their school.
