Some scholarships require a letter substantiating your involvement in the GLBT community. GSA advisors and GLYS are possible sources of such "proof."

The 2nd Annual TOM HAMMOND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This $500 scholarship, new in 2005, will go to a GLYS member or alumnus. The scholarship is named for GLYS founder, Tom Hammond, and has been made possible through the generosity of his sister, Sue Hammond.

PFLAG Scholarship Programs (Parents Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays)
PFLAG National Scholarships provide an important, positive statement to gay, lesbian, bi and trans students. This is the second year of the PFLAG National Scholarships Program, and this year we offer two levels of scholarships at $2,500 and $1,000.

National Gay Pilots Association
The NGPA Education Fund has been established to provide educational assistance in the form of scholarships to members of the gay and lesbian community who have expressed an interest in an aviation career as a professional pilot.

Financial Aid for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Students
"FinAid maintains a very strict privacy policy. It does not retain any log files of individual accesses and deletes all server log files on a weekly basis. This section describes a number of scholarships available to lesbian, gay and bisexual students. These scholarships offer a variety of criteria for eligibility. This is not an exhaustive list of all the possible sources of scholarships.

If you're a lesbian, gay or bisexual student, you should also call the colleges that interest you and ask if they have a LGB Resource Center. The resource center should have information about any local LGB awards.

ZAMI
Zami offers the Audre Lorde Scholarship and several other $1,000 scholarships to gay and lesbian undergraduate and graduate students of African descent who are making significant contributions to their communities. Zami is Atlanta's premiere organization for lesbians of African descent, and the award's emphasis is on service to the lesbian community. The deadline is May 15. For more information, contact:

AT&T LEAGUE Scholarship Fund "Each year, the LEAGUE Foundation awards academic scholarships to assist self-identified Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender youth in attending college. Family Pride Coalition, Colage accepting applications for Lee Dubin Scholarships.

The Family Pride Coalition and COLAGE (Children Of Lesbians And Gays Everywhere).

The scholarship provides up to $1,000 for as many as five college students who are the children of LGBT parents, and who have demonstrated a commitment to creating change in the LGBT community. They are named in honor of Lee Dubin, a gay father and one of the founders of the Family Pride Coalition. This year will mark the 11th year of the scholarship program. To date, more than $19,000 in funds have been distributed.

"The Family Pride Coalition is proud to continue the tradition of the Lee Dubin Scholarship program in honor of one of our founders," said Aimee Gelnaw, executive director of the Family Pride Coalition. "To be able to celebrate and support the contributions and excellence of our children is a blessing, and we are happy to partner with COLAGE to make it happen."

An Uncommon Legacy Foundation
Lesbian Leadership Scholarship Program

Academic scholarships are a large component of Legacy’s program. Each year, after a competitive application process, Legacy awards Lesbian Leadership Scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate lesbian students at accredited colleges or universities in the United States. To qualify, all applicants must: Be planning to become a full-time student at an accredited college or university in the United States, have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on their transcripts; demonstrate a commitment or contribution to the lesbian community; demonstrate financial need; and follow Legacy’s Lesbian Leadership Scholarship guidelines. Consideration will include: academic performance/honors, personal/financial hardship and, especially, service to the LGBT community. The Point Foundation ~ A Scholarship Lifeline for LGBT Students
Scholarship opportunities for exceptional students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Point Foundation is the first and only nationwide LGBT scholarship organization that focuses exclusively on granting assistance to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students of distinction. TRANSGENDER SCHOLARSHIP AND EDUCATION LEGACY FUND
For Transgender Identified Students in the Helping and Caring Professions
The International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE), awards numerous scholarships to transgender identified students in the helping and caring professions through it's collaborative Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy Fund (TSELF) in the United States and Canada. Each scholarship provides supplemental funding for post-secondary students who have a demonstrated ability in and commitment to affecting change in the ransgender communities through their commitment to working and being educated in the helping and caring professions. These include, but are not limited to, Social Services, Health Care, Religious Instruction (all denominations), Teaching and the Law. We seek to reflect a broad range of interests, including social services, HIV/AIDS education, law, teaching and education, religious instruction (all denominations), medical and health care as well as the sciences.

Queer Foundation
To the winners of the 2007 high school English essay contest, $1,000 scholarships are available for studies in queer theory or a related field at the college or university of their choice.

As Queer Scholars, young writers can positively affect the conditions of their fellow LGBT students and other queer youth. Collected, their writings can become queer-the-curriculum materials that schools and teachers can use for positive change.
