From the director: GLYS members have been raised in a variety of religious backgrounds.  They are Jewish, Muslim, Roman Catholic, Protestant (many denominations), Episcopal, Unitarian and more.  Some members are agnostic and atheist.  We are not able to celebrate every religious holiday at our Drop-in Center, therefore we do not celebrate any of them.

We do, however, provide support for youth who want to explore their religion’s perspective as they work toward acceptance of themselves as GLBT individuals.  Many GLYS youth struggle with their sexual orientation because of negative messages that they hear in their churches.  Yet there are many clergy in WNY who are supportive and affirming of GLBT individuals.  We invite gay-affirming clergy to visit GLYS and share with youth why they are supportive and affirming.

For information on local welcoming churches, visit our “Local” page.  “Websites” provides links for inclusive spiritual groups.
